Please view artworks by Michael Gross presented in Kings gallery
Michael Gross was an Israeli painter and sculptor. The artist was born in Tiberias in 1920. His early artworks were figurative. Especially Zeev Ben Zvi and Moshe Ziffer influenced his early period. Meanwhile, in the 1960s and 1970s his paintings bacame to be more abstract and minimalistic. Moreover, they were always tied to natural forms, never pure abstract. He dealed with contrasts of colors and textures. Also, he focused on proportions, areas of shades and the placement of objects. The artist studied at Technion in Haifa and at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He came back to Israel in 1954 and settled in Ein Hod, the village of artists.
Kings gallery collection
Kings gallery has had two paintings by Michael Gross in the collection.
The unique use of soft pastel coloring distinguishes Gross’s Israeli landscapes. For instance, his beautiful “The Port” is very delicate and light. The painting mostly combines different shades of blue and grey. Michael Gross created this artwork in 1966. Two big ships are like enormous giants in comparison with small boats in the foreground. Furthermore, the shades and conveyed glare influence the sizes and the perception of objects.
“Abstract” by Michael Gross is an experiment with the sense of volume and colors. The artwork has been recently sold. However, we are glad to offer abtsract paintings by Moshe Leider and Yaacov Agam. Probably, the blog about “Geometric shapes” by Ben Nicholson will be interesting.
