“Lag Ba’omer” by Zvi Malnovitzer

Zvi Malnovitzer is an expressionist contemporary Israeli artist. The painter was grown up in the religious society and managed to connect two separate worlds of arts and Judaism. Particularly, his main themes are Haredi Judaism, Holocaust and Exile. The education in Europe provided him with all the techniques, that he used to convey the subtlest emotions of the heart.

“Lag Ba’omer”

People are dancing round a big fire celebrating the feast of Lag Ba’omer. Especially, the artist masterfully conveys the light which appears to unite the composition. Illuminated faces are full of emotions and enthusiasm. Figures seem to emerge from the space of the canvas to enter the real space of the room.

The depicted energy of the flame has special meaning. Bonfires are lighted on Lag BaOmer, the anniversary of the death of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and, also, the day on which the plague that killed Rabbi Akiva‘s 24,000 disciples came to an end.

Besides, you can find a large selection of other artworks created by Zvi Malnovitzer in Kings Gallery. Inspired by the portraits of Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669), the artist has transmitted the feelings and glances of the spiritual and material tension moments.

Additionally, some blogs about his paintings: “Tashlikh”“Girl in a White Dress”“Portrait”“Preparations for the celebration on Mount Meron”. Also, take a look at Chassid dancing depictions by other artists.
