Our gallery is proud of our collection of the paintings by Reuven Rubin.
Reuven Rubin was a pioneering figurative Israeli artist of the mid-20th and one of the creators of the new Eretz-Israel style. The modernist artist is famous for gentle landscapes of Jerusalem and Galilee. In 1912, he arrived in future Eretz-Israel, which was still the part of the Ottoman Empire. The painter later wrote, that when he got off the ship in Jaffa, he realized that this was his land, where he would live.
Selected artworks
Elegant old olives trees surround the way of a traveler with a donkey. In “Road to Safed” the land and the nature play the major role, determining the calm atmosphere. Unique style and the approach of the artist make paintings full of love and wisdom.
“Early Morning” is a beginning of inspiration, that would lead to the in-depth discovery and reflection. Each detail and living part of the work strives upward, therefore it seems to be vertical within a horizontal format.
Calm painting “The Fisherman” masterfully conveys the viscosity of water. The giant fisherman is thoughtful, resembling the pose of a harpist carried away by the melody. It is a row of veils, revealing to the viewer the permanent beauty of this world.
“Road to Bet-Lehem” dates back to 1927. That period in Rubin’s artistic career is sometimes defined as the time of Cezannesque landscapes.
