Henry Andrew Harper was born in 1835. The British Victorian artist became well-known as a painter of orient. In 1872 Harper traveled around Palestine and Egypt. The exhibition of his landscapes took place at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Especially it was interesting for Harper to connect places with Bibilical events and convey the mood and the spirit of the Holy Land. His diaries turned into travel books, including “Journey of a painter in the Land of the Bible” and “Journeys in the Land of Israel”. Also, his “llustrated Letters to My Children from the Holy Land: Eastern Manners and Customs Depicted in a Series of Sketches from Life” with beautiful sketches became to be a quite popular culturological essay.
