Please find detail of the portrait by Pablo Picasso
A black felt pen portrait of a faun by Pablo Picasso dedicated “to my friend Brassaï” (“Pour mon ami Brassaï”). On a page of a book of Czechoslovak publisher Tattan about both artists drawing dated 12.10. 1969 and signed “Picasso”. We present a late artwork of the artist, who passed away four years later in 1973.
Once the artist wrote: “What will the paint do when I’m gone? It will have to go over my body! It won’t be able to pass by, will it?”.
Curly hair and beard surround laughing eyes and straight nose of the virile man, faun.
In December 1932 art critic Tériade invited Brassaï to photograph Picasso, his studio and his sculptures. That was how the friendship and mutual admiration started. Picasso described Brassai’s art as full of truth.
One of the most important written works for learning about Picasso is a book by Brassaï: Conversations with Picasso (1964). This chronicle, which Brassaï accompanies with more than fifty snapshots, begins in September 1943 – twelve years after he first met the painter – and ends in September 1962, providing a two-decade account of Picasso.
