Although Kings gallery has a focus on Jerusalem art, we have several interesting Tel-Aviv depictions. The city was established in 1909 and quickly became home for plenty of Jewish immigrants. Nowadays, people often compare Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem. The modern and rapidly changing city stands on the shoreline. From architectual point of view, Tel Aviv’s most significant heritage are the buildings from the 1930s and ’40s in the Bauhaus style.
“Tel Aviv Landscape”
Yaacov Feldman has conveyed the multilayered and diversed character of the city. “Tel Aviv Landscape” showes the developing environment. Old buldings in the forefront fade before scycrappers in the background. Sand colors make the painting soft and tranquil. Also, due to the light blue sky and slightly vague perspective, the artist manages to transmit a haze. In addition, check our blog about the art by Feldman.
“Early days in Tel Aviv”
Yosl Bergner created the artowork in 2010. The painting depicts the first years of Tel-Aviv foundation. Families with children have just arrived and settled there. They enjoy views and promenades along the sea. The figures are placed either looking straight at the spectators or backwards. Therefore, we appear to be bystanders of their joining the new country and culture. Interestingly, the artist chose one of the few overcast days. In particular, he masterfully depicted the rays of the sun coming down through clouds. Moreover, through a bit vague impressionistic manner Yosl Bergner conveyed the wind flows, that were swinging umbrellas.
“Tel Aviv landscape”
Ludwig Blum showed one of the oldest districts of the city. “Tel Aviv landscape” impresses with its lightness and clarity. Countless buildings stretch to the horizon. Gentle colours of houses resonate in the shades of sky and sea. The sun shines through and illuminates the clouds.
