Our gallery has three depictions of Chassidic dancing by Yosef Douer (1935-2012), a contemporary Israeli artist, who worked and lived in Jerusalem. Also, he was a Rabbi in yeshiva. You can find his biography and several artwork descriptions in our blog.
“Chassidic dancing”
Three chassids are flying in their passion and G-d worship, their silhouettes resemble fire flames. Especially, revived free strokes convey the motion and energy. “Golden Chassidic dancing” has very intense color pallet. Gold refers to kingship and holiness. The striped with gold caftans can be seen nowadays in Jerusalem ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods. The dance here is a meditation that gives opportunity to ascend.
“Chassid”
The figure of a prayer is in the vortex. Yosef Douer made an explicit accent on the hand with the calling gesture. Red and blue combine elements of fire and water, that seem to envelop the worshipper. Particularly, the artist managed to depict spiritual impulse and even convey the idea of its immateriality.
