A graduate of Columbia University, Aryanna Garber is an award-winning playwright and artist based in New York City. Inspired by the mysticism of the Hebrew alphabet, Aryanna infuses her work with both the spiritual and textual creating pieces that speak not only to the minds, but also to the hearts.
The artist in this artwork is referring to the paragraph from TaNaCH from Isaiah 57 –
בורא ניב שפתים שלום שלום לרחוק ולקרוב אמר יהוה ורפאתיו.
“
The blessing of peace is proffered both to the far and to the near”. This pasuk also speaks about the creation of the world with the speech, that was granted to people.
Rashi comments here, that terms “far” and “near” are spiritual markers — whether one has engaged in righteous behavior from birth, or only recently returned wholeheartedly to this path, Hashem’s blessing of peace is upon them.
Aryanna Garber told us: “a lone dove with a pasuk of peace highlights how even alone we stand together”.
