Kiddush is “an act of sanctification”. Specifically, it is a blessing, that is read over wine or grape juice to sanctify the Shabbat and Jewish holidays. It is one of the central rituals of Shabbat. The person who recites Kiddush drinks a couple sips of the wine and then passes the cup to guests around the table, or pours it into cups for each person.
