Huvy Elisha “Wedding in Jerusalem”

Please find our selection of “Wedding in Jerusalem” by Huvy Elisha

Huvy (Ahuva) Elisha was born in Jerusalem. The first six years of life spent in Judean Hills influenced child’s perception of beauty and predetermined her love to the land of Israel. The family emigrated to Vienna, then Prague, and finally London. When Huvy turned 14, her teacher wrote a recommendation to the prestigious St. Martin’s School of Art in London. Fortunately, the jury accepted Huvy and she became to be the youngest student ever enrolled.

“Wedding in Jerusalem”  is full of movement. Vivid living strokes convey energy of the dance and joy. All the faces in the forefront look at different directions, so the viewer follow all these fleeting glances involving into the painting. Moreover, this night is full of light coming from the faces and the building at the background.

Huvy Elisha’s style is influenced by impressionism and postimpressionism. She devoted her classical European education to depictions of life of Meah Shearim, the ultra religious district of Jerusalem, as well as depictions of the beauty of blooming nature. I would like to mention some other artworks presented in our gallery.

“The Loner”

“The Loner” fascinates with its volume and atmosphere. A figure is lying on the ground near the tree in the beautiful magical forest.  Even though the work is not distinct, color transitions and paints make it very sensual and accurate in the conveying of the impression, enchanted reality. Especially, Huvy Elisha combines impressionistic manner with neoimpressionist volume self-sufficient strokes, that extend the painting beyond a frame. Yellow, green and blue transmit freshness and brightness. Moreover, the work seems to emit the joy of life and nature.

“Still Life”

“Still Life” is an impressionistic depiction of a tender bouquet standing on the table. The painter masterfully shows magnificence of flowers reflected in a transparent vase.
