Huvy (Ahuva) Elisha

Please find our selection of artworks by Huvy (Ahuva) Elisha

Huvy Elisha was born in Jerusalem. The first six years of life spent in Judean Hills influenced child’s perception of beauty and predetermined her love to the land of Israel. The family emigrated to Vienna, then Prague, and finally London. When Huvy turned 14, her teacher wrote a recommendation to the prestigious St. Martin’s School of Art in London. Fortunately, the jury accepted Huvy and she became to be the youngest student ever enrolled.

Huvy Elisha’s style is influenced by impressionism and postimpressionism. She devoted her classical European education to depictions of life of Meah Shearim, the ultrareligious district of Jerusalem, as well as beauty of blooming nature. I would like to stop on three artworks presented in our gallery.

“The Loner”

“The Loner” fascinates with its volume and atmosphere. A figure is lying on the ground near the tree in the beautiful magical forest.  Even though the work is not distinct, color transitions and paints make it very sensual and accurate in the conveying of the impression, enchanted reality. Especially, Huvy Elisha combines impressionistic manner with neo impressionistic volume self-sufficient strokes, that extend the painting beyond a frame. Yellow, green and blue transmit freshness and brightness. Moreover, the work seems to emit the joy of life and nature.

“Jewish Wedding”

Art by Huvy Elisha is full of traditions and symbols. Vivid colors of “Jewish Wedding” appear to convey emotions and spiritual power of the moment. Probably, it would be interesting to regard this artwork together with the depiction of chuppah by Zvi Malnovitzer, check our blog about it.

“Still Life”

“Still Life” is an impressionistic depiction of a tender bouquet standing on the table. The painter masterfully shows magnificence of flowers reflected in a transparent vase.
