“Bind” by Menashe Kadishman

Please find details of “Bind” by Menashe Kadishman

Menashe Kadishman is a famous Israeli artist, who often challenged and surprised audiences. The sculptor and painter created a great variety of sheep images in different styles. Within the series of metal sculptures, the artist works with iron, showing this firm material from a new, non-familiar perspective. A combination of perseverance with elegance captivates.

“Bind” is a part of a project dedicated to the Sacrifice of Isaac, it includes sculptures, drawings and paintings. The face of Isaak is lying in front of the lamb, that from above merges with the silhouette of a bird. Moreover, all three unified characters seem to be interacting with each other through their looks. This sculpture is a depiction of a living conversation and engagement. Interestingly, these figures can be regarded as masks, referring to succession of the roles in the plot. Life as a flow, bringing a row of challenges.

Tel Aviv Museum of Art

One sculpture from the bind series has become especially well known, as placed in the square of Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In particular, this artwork consists of three pieces: the faces of the lamb and a man lying dead on the ground and the figures of two weeping women.

In addition, Kings gallery offers a big collection of artworks by Menashe Kadishman. For instance, take a look at his “Gesture to Mondriaan” series. Besides, check our blog about sculptures. Notably, his metal artworks impress with their subtlety and streamlined black forms.
