"Portrait of a man" by Boris Schatz, the founder of Bezalel Academy. The old wise face is painted in details, the way the man is looking, his glance capture the attention. Schatz, who became known as the "father of Israeli art", was a Lithuanian born Jewish artist and sculptor. In 1903, he met Theodor Herzl and became an ardent Zionist. At the Fifth Zionist Congress of 1905, he proposed creating a Jewish art school. Bezalel functioned in a broad variety of destinations. On its basis a small museum opened. This museum in the future transformed into the Israel Museum.
