Marc Chagall “Le Musicien”

We are glad to present engraving “Le Musicien” by Marc Chagall. Since 1910s musicians had filled the artist’s works. As Chagall was experimenting with symbols and colors, he became to be interested in the notion of rhythm and musical sequence. Chagall’s exploration led to the sense of musicality in his works.

In particular,

The musician fused with his instrument – a double bass, reminding a play by Patrick Suskind. The image is very expressive, moreover, the appearance of a man can resemble a treble clef. As usually, in this work there are notes of theatrical hoodwinking, as different shoes of a musicians or outlines of a hat. The artist through these details conveys with great love the dedication and the musical passion.

Marc Chagall is one of the most outstanding artists. As he described: “My art does not reason, it is molten lead, the azure of the soul pouring on the canvas”. A master of Russian avant-garde never turned to abstraction, working in the limits of figurative painting. His world connected fantasy and reality in the fabulous, kind and tender way. His characters live in the world full of miracles, flying people and animals with human looks and emotions.
