Reuven Rubin (1893–1974) is one of the pioneers of modern Israeli painting. Born in Galați, Romania, he settled in the Land of Israel and became a defining voice of its early art — later serving as Israel’s first ambassador to Romania. His warm, lyrical, faux-naïve style captured the landscapes, light and people of Eretz Israel with a tenderness that made him beloved far beyond the art world: the hills of Jerusalem, the Galilee, olive groves and biblical roads rendered in glowing, unhurried colour.
