Arman – Serious Paintings II – Sliced cello

Please find details of Arman “Serious Painting II”

Art of Arman is marked by a diverse range of artistic expressions, showcasing his creativity across various mediums. Armand Pierre Fernandez was born in 1928, the French-American artist took part in the Nouveau Réalisme movement. Emerging in the early 1960s, this movement sought to incorporate everyday objects into art, blurring the lines between art and life. Arman’s work often explored themes of consumerism, accumulation, and the disposable nature of modern society.

The concept of time fascinated the artist, and it is especially evident in his “coupes” series, part which is the sliced cello work – Serious Paintings II. In this kind of works, he sliced through everyday objects, such as musical instruments, revealing their internal structures. This series delved into the themes of time and transformation. The sliced objects, often suspended in resin or acrylic, became a metaphor for capturing a moment in history. Two parts of the cello contrast with each other through the composition and colors. It is an exploration of the inherent beauty within the ordinary.

In addition, Kings gallery offers “Ties” by Arman, an interesting example of his “accumulations.” In particular, these were assemblages of identical or similar objects, often discarded items, arranged in repetitive patterns. By doing so, Arman elevated ordinary objects to the realm of art, challenging traditional notions of aesthetics. Therefore, he prompted viewers to reconsider the value and meaning of common items.

Arman’s innovative approaches to materials and forms made his legacy inspiring for contemporary artists.
