Born by the name Zvi Caspi in a small town in Poland, Hershl Ben Haim changed his name when he immigrated to Israel in 1945. A talented singer, musician and conductor, he is as well known for his musical talents as he is for his paintings. Ben Haim moved from his town when he was only eleven years old to the big city of Odessa. The artist remembers his childhood fondly and paints colorful scenes of the shtetle life as well as despair over its destruction.
